Preparation Guide for The Reset Hour

In this guide, you’ll find tips on how to prepare for your upcoming breathwork session.

PREPARATION

6/8/20243 min read

Most of our offerings are designed to take you into expanded states of awareness and deep inner work. The Reset Hour is a little different: shorter, lighter, and focused on rest, relaxation, and renewal. Because it’s a shorter format, a little preparation of your space and mindset will go a long way in helping you get the most out of it.

Need to Know

Setting Up Your Space

Here are a few things we suggest having on hand during your session, in order of importance:

  • Eye mask – if you have one, use it. It makes a big difference in helping you turn inward and drop in.

  • Speaker or wireless headphones – music is central to the experience. Wireless is preferable, since you may want to move around.

  • Journal or paper – for the integration exercise.

  • Mark-making tools – anything that makes marks works: pen, colored pencils, crayons. Different colors are nice to have, but not required.

  • Water bottle – ideally one with a closed lid so you can sip without opening your eyes.

  • Chapstick – deep, rapid breathing can sometimes dry out your lips.

  • Blankets and pillows – for comfort and to adjust to any temperature changes.

And finally, make sure you’re joining from a private, cozy space where you won’t be disturbed. We recommend lying down on the floor, couch, or bed—but sitting is also fine if that’s what works best for you.

Session Flow

We go with the flow, but most sessions include:

  1. Welcome & orientation – background on the breathwork modality and breathing instructions.

  2. Guided meditation – to help you drop in.

  3. Breathwork journey – accompanied by a powerful music set. For Reset Hour sessions, this portion runs about 10–15 minutes. (Longer sessions last 60–90 minutes.)

  4. Expressive art exercise – a brief practice for insight and integration.

  5. Sharing circle – space to share your experience or simply witness others.

What You Might Experience

The Reset Hour helps you pause, recharge, and reconnect with yourself. Breathwork is a somatic practice rooted in the body’s wisdom. Each session is guided by your own body's intelligence so each is different, but some common things you may notice:

  • Physical release – temperature shifts, tingling, vibrations, or spontaneous movement.

  • Emotional release – tears, laughter, grief, joy—all welcome here. Even 10 minutes of breathwork can open the door to deep release.

  • Memories or insights – clarity about current challenges or life situations may arise.

  • Transpersonal experiences – ancestral imagery, oneness, or spiritual visions (more common in longer sessions).

Tip: Don’t analyze while you’re in the process. Let the breath guide you. Stay present and allow whatever arises to move through.

Good to Know

Your Inner Guiding Intelligence (IGI)

The magic of breathwork unfolds when you stop trying to control it. At Luminous Breathwork, we call this inner resource your Luminous Mind—a guiding intelligence within you.

When you build trust with this inner resource, you begin to sense what you’re ready to work with. You learn to hold your experiences with curiosity and compassion. From that foundation, letting go becomes possible, and wisdom emerges naturally.

Two Core Principles: TRUST and SURRENDER

These two principles are the foundation of our Breathwork journeys:

  • Trust – Your Inner Guiding Intelligence will only bring what you’re ready to meet. Stepping out of the analytical mind and into the felt sense of the body allows deeper wisdom to surface.

  • Surrender – Let the full range of human experience move through you without resistance. Joy, pain, confusion, or clarity—when you welcome it all, transformation becomes possible.

Five Ways to Drop Deeper Into the Process
  1. Tune into your body – follow where it wants to go.

  2. Feel your emotions – let them move without judgment.

  3. Move – shake, stretch, sway; let your body guide you.

  4. Use your voice – sigh, hum, tone, or even shout into a pillow. Sound helps move energy.

  5. Let the music carry you – our carefully curated sets are your co-pilot in the journey.

The Music

Music is a vital part of the Luminous Breathwork experience. Every music set is carefully crafted to support your journey:

  • Opening – rhythmic and tribal, awakening the unconscious.

  • Middle – melodic and emotional, deepening inner exploration.

  • Closing – slower and heart-centered, guiding you into integration.

Don’t stop halfway! The softer music at the end is vital for weaving the experience back into your body.

Contraindications

Some styles of breathwork can bring strong physical or emotional responses. Please review our contraindications on this page. If any apply to you, reach out so we can talk before you join a session.

We’re so glad you’re taking this time for self-care and renewal. The best way to prepare is simply to come with an open mind and a willingness to explore. Whatever arises will be just what you need for this moment. We’re grateful you’ve chosen to spend this time with us, and we look forward to holding space for you.
